Historical anthropology, urban sociology, and policy decision consulting in governance.
Zhang Youting has a doctoral degree in Anthropology and a post-doctoral in Po-litical Economics. His research interests cover historical anthropology,urban so-ciology, and policy decision consulting in governance. He is an expert in qualitative research methods, focusing on urban morphology and the life course of garrison towns along the Great Wall and the coast; and he researches Human Ecology in urban villages, migrant workers, landless peasants and other rapid urbanization phenomena. He studies policy-decision consulting in the social development and governance of hyper-megalopolises, with emphasis on urban fringe, urban village, large residential areas, town communities, village governance, and the collective economy. He has published papers in the Chinese Journal of Sociology (CJS), the Journal of Humanities and other journals. He also published monographs: The Inland and the Frontier: A Historical Anthropological Study of Ningwu Guan in Shanxi Province (2012); and The Making of the Community Order: An Economic and Social Analysis of an Urban Village in Shanghai (2014). Moreover, he is in charge of a National Social Science Fund (Youth) project: “The Emergence and Classified Governance of the Migrant Workers’ Informal Employment Problems”.
