Zhu Zhiyan has a doctoral degree in Anthropology and a post-doctoral in Political Economics. Her research interests cover ethnic identity and ethnic group relations; ethnic politics; studies of Xinjiang Autonomous Region and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. She is now heading several research projects, including a National Social Science Fund (Youth) Project “Research on Promoting Harmonious Ethnic Relations and Maintaining the Long-term Stability of Xinjiang”, a China Postdoctoral Science Foundation project “The Status quo, Problems and Countermeasures of Ethnic Relations in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps”. She has published several papers on these issues: “The creation of ethnic image and the dual disadvantage: analysis of the Uighur floating population in cities -focusing on the ‘Xinjiang nut cake’” in the Journal of South-Central University for Nationalities (Humanities and Social Sciences), 2014, No.4; “A summary of the researches on the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps” in the Qinghai Journal of Ethnology, 2015, No.3; “Resolving the confrontation between native Shanghai people and outsiders by using benefit symbiosis” in the Chinese Journal of Social Science, 2015-05-29.
