We are pleased to announce the upcoming World Dialogue on China Studies · Belgium Forum, set to take place on June 20 in Brussels, Belgium. This significant academic event is an extension of the biannual World Conference on China Studies, typically held in Shanghai, and aims to foster a deeper understanding of China through international dialogue.

Event Details:

Date: June 20, 2024

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Theme: China Studies and the European Understanding of China

The World Conference on China Studies, jointly organized by China's Information Office of the State Council and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, convenes biannually in Shanghai. The inaugural World Conference on China Studies·Shanghai Forum was held on November 24, 2023, under the themed Chinese Civilization and the China's Path - A Global Perspective. The event was co-organized by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Information Office of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS). President Xi Jinping extended his congratulations to the forum, underscoring its global significance.

The World Dialogue on China Studies serves as a critical platform for academic exchange within the framework of the World Conference on China Studies. Held outside of China biennially when the main conference is not in session, this year's forum in Brussels commemorates the 210th anniversary of the establishment of professional sinology in Europe. The forum is co-organized by the Information Office of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), the European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS) and Cátedra China, with the China Cultural Center in Brussels supporting related activities.

Nearly 60 experts from China and Europe will engage in in-depth discussions around the central theme. The forum will feature three parallel panels, each focusing on critical aspects of China-Europe relations:

1. Europe-China People-to-People Exchange and Dialogue - Mechanisms and Pathways

2. Europe-China Economic and Trade Cooperation - Resilience and Potential

3. European China Studies - Status quo and Prospects for the Future

We look forward to welcoming participants to this pivotal event, fostering robust dialogue and enhancing mutual understanding between China and Europe.
